A History of Bob

Stock Layers was born from my journey as a novice investor, where the only advice I knew was to buy index funds and hold them indefinitely in hopes of eventually retiring one day far, far in the future. Then, early in the year of 2021, everything changed. A spark was lit and my curiosity drove me to dig deeper into the mechanics of the stock market. This marked the beginning of my quest to unravel the complexities of market movements and trading dynamics.

I began by investigating market cycles and was perplexed by the patterns I observed and learned immensely from others that were simulteneously sharing their findings. This led me down a path of discovering the nuances of market behavior, including supplemental liquidity deposits, margin requirements, settlement periods, and continuous net settlement. The more layers i peeled back, the more intricate the puzzle became, revealing an intricate web of market moving forces.

Throughout my research, I uncovered how settlement cycles and supplemental liquidity requirements influence market behavior, particularly in the context of Fails-to-Deliver (FTD) loops and short selling. My exploration into these matters and other pieces of the puzzle helped me to discover some of the tactics that large entities can employ to manipulate settlement periods for their own profit and the impact these actions have on stock prices, often at the expense of average investors.

An Evolution

While this journey started as a personal quest for knowledge, it evolved into something else - becoming an obsession with sharing of information and the development of a simple "data repo" on google drive, and eventually into this site today. Stocklayers is the culmination of my efforts to understand the market, and how it functions, paired with a strong desire to level the playing field and share data that should be freely available to everyone investing in the market - not just the big players. Stocklayers is dedicated to you, the average investor. To you, the "retail investor", dumb money, etc. It's a place where you can educate yourself and access information about the markets that can be very hard to find, process, and make sense of. Our mission is to provide everyday investors with the knowledge and data needed to navigate the stock market effectively.
